Install Nexus
Nexus Setup installs a prebuilt release, including Nexus Pascal, Nexus Build, Nexus Forge, language servers, the mobile engine, runtime libraries, and the package SDK. Ordinary application development does not require bootstrapping a compiler or installing Lazarus.
Use the Windows x64 installer or Ubuntu x64 package supplied with the release. The Nexus repository is the source entry point; availability of a downloadable release is separate from source availability.
Windows
Run the Nexus installer as your normal user. Shared dependency installation requests elevation when needed. Windows 10/11 x64 is supported, with Microsoft App Installer/WinGet available.
The default Nexus location is %LOCALAPPDATA%/Programs/Nexus.
Ubuntu
On Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04 x64, install the downloaded launcher package:
sudo apt install ./Nexus-<version>-x86_64-linux.deb
Replace <version> with the supplied filename. Then open Install Nexus
from the applications menu as your normal user.
The launcher package supplies the wizard and payload. The wizard installs Nexus
per user, normally under ~/.local/share/Nexus, or $XDG_DATA_HOME/Nexus
when that location is configured.
Choose components
| Selection | What it supplies |
|---|---|
| Nexus product | Tools, native engine, compiler backends, thirteen destination RTLs, package SDK, and notices |
| Command-line integration | User PATH entries; selected by default |
| Editor integration | VS Code if absent and the combined Nexus Pascal/Nexus Script extension with CodeLLDB |
| C/C++ development | Windows MSVC/SDK components or Ubuntu development libraries, plus CMake and Ninja |
| Android application development | JDK 17, Android command-line tools, platform/build tools, and ADB |
| Android native development | NDK and CMake versions used by the engine source build |
| Android emulator | Emulator and system image, with optional creation of a Nexus test phone |
LLVM is a release-declared dependency managed through WinGet or APT. Setup uses a tested major version while permitting compatible package updates. An incompatible Windows LLVM installation requires an explicit replacement choice.
The complete compiler/RTL matrix does not include Apple SDKs or every target sysroot. Those remain prerequisites for linking applications for those platforms.
After installation
Open a new terminal on Windows. On Ubuntu, sign in again to pick up the managed
PATH block in ~/.profile. Then check:
nxbuild /help
nxforge /help
nxpc -iV
Tool settings live in bin/NXBuild.Environment.nxscript beside Nexus Build and Nexus Forge.
Configure that file when choosing different tools.
Next: build your first application.
Update, repair, and removal
Updates reuse the registered installation and feature choices. Setup preserves user-edited tool settings. Repair uses the retained payload.
Use Windows Apps & Features or the Ubuntu per-user Nexus maintenance launcher. On Ubuntu, removing the downloaded launcher package alone does not uninstall a user's Nexus installation.
Uninstall removes owned product files and integration. Shared packages, user configuration, Android SDKs, and virtual-device data remain. See Setup and Android configuration for details.
